Luweero, Uganda |  THE INDEPENDENT |  The incumbent Nakasongola LCV Chairperson Sam Kigula and former Luweero District Inspector of Schools Uthman Jjuuko Kamoga are leading in National Resistance Movement Party primaries in Greater Luweero districts.

According to provisional results for LCV Chairperson NRM flag bearer for Luweero district obtained by URN from 370 out of 606 polling stations, Uthman Kamoga Jjuuko has so far polled 15,268 votes followed by Abbey Ssozi Bakisula with 1,545 votes. The current Luweero District speaker Dithan Kikabi has so far obtained 1,312 and Rashidah Birungi is trailing with 91 votes.

Kamoga enjoys a lead in Makulubita, Kalagala Sub County, Luweero town, Wobulenzi and Bombo towns.

Kamoga is in a tight race with Kikabi in Kikyusa Sub County where Kikabi resides from.

David Kamugisha the Luweero NRM District Registrar says that he has started to receive results from sub-counties and hope to declare the winners at later in the evening.

In Nakasongola district, provisional results from 117 out of 326 polling stations in the district, Kigula has so far polled 9,231 votes whereas his arch-rival James Wandira has got 5,088 votes and Charles Daniel Ssenyimba has only 733 votes.

Wandira won in Nakasongola town council but Kigula is performing well in Kakooge town council and other rural areas.

Godfrey Kibi Good, the Nakasongola NRM district registrar has received only results from Nakasongola town and is waiting for submission from other polling stations.

He is expected to declare later in the night after retrieving the results from eight sub-counties and seven town councils.

However, rains have disrupted the retrieval of results from the villages in Nakaseke and Luweero district which may delay the declaration of the winners.

The incumbent LCV Chairman of Nakaseke Ignatius Koomu is tussling it out Wasswa Tadeo for Party ticket.

At Kirinda Parish in Wakyato parish, Wasswa has allegedly grabbed all the declaration forms that had been collected and disappeared with them in a car.

Enock Nyongore the Nakaseke North MP flag bearer and agent for Koomu says that he has reported the case to Police over reports that he plans to alter the results.

Wasswa was unavailable to comment on the matter.

Isah Ssemwogerere the Savannah Regional Police Spokesperson says that the primaries have been peaceful across the districts of Luweero, Nakaseke and Nakasongola.

He, however, added that Police has deployed heavily at tally centers to avert any violence following the declaration of the winners of the primaries.
