Bunyangabu, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Defense Minister, Adolf Mwesige Kasaija has lost his bid to defend the Bunyangabu county parliamentary seat on the National Resistance Movement-NRM party ticket. He lost the party flag to his rival, Davis Kamukama.
According to the NRM primary results issued by Bunyangabu District NRM Registrar in the wee hours of this morning, Robert Musiime, Kamukama polled 22,445 to defeat the incumbent who polled 18,067 votes.
Vincent Womujuni came third with 1,993 votes while Robert Nyakahuma trailed the group with 1,881 votes.
Peace Mutuzo, the Buyangabu Woman MP and Culture State Minister defeated her rivals with a comfortable margin when she garnered 80.2 percent of the total votes cast.
She polled 33,684 votes followed by Elizabeth Kijumba who polled 4578 votes. Lydia Kiiza got 2998 votes while Lillian Kaatuutu managed only 833 votes.
Speaking shortly after being declared winner, Mutuzo pledge to work with her rivals to uplift the standard of women in Bunyangabu and consolidate NRM support in the district.
