NRM cancels results from six polling stations in Makindye west

Tanga Odoi NRM chairperson in charge of elections

Kampala, Uganda |  THE INDEPENDENT |  The National Resistance Movement has cancelled results from six polling stations in Makindye West after the party primaries held on Friday. The party was choosing candidates for the district and division leadership across the country.

However, the NRM Electoral Commission Presiding Officer for Makindye west Vincent Kavuma says that they have observed vases of vote-rigging in St Paul Zone, Convent Zone, Ntuuse Zone, Katabira Zone, Gogonya Zone, West Zone and Barracks Zone in Nsambya West C

According to Kavuma, some of these zones have not more than 600 voters, yet the number of people who participated in the polls went beyond 700 people, according to the declaration forms. He warned that this time the party EC decision was lenient to the candidates, but in the forthcoming elections, candidates will be held liable for all malpractice cases.

Kavuma says the voter turnout was poor partly because candidates, especially for the post of Lord Mayor, failed to present themselves to the voters during campaigns and at some of the polling stations, such as Kibuli and Buziga, voters didn’t vote for them because they didn’t know who they were voting for.

In the entire Makindye district, Musician Daniel Kazibwe also-known-as Raga Dee scored,9634 votes at a percentage of 83.4 per cent beating his opponent Sssebaana Kizito who scored 1,914 at a percentage of 16.6 per cent.

On other posts whose elections were also held on Friday, Vincent  Mboowaand Ismail Jumba were unopposed for the district councillors flag in Makindye West II and West III,

At Makindye West I- Robert Kyaguba with 3,602 total votes beat his opponent Kagoda Robert who scored 770 while at Makindye West IV- Deogratius Kyalimpa won the race with 2,390 votes against Joseph Ssenyonga’s 1,213 votes.  Susan Kibwika was unopposed for the Female councillors flag while at Makindye West I Margret Kisakye scored 6,586 votes to defeat Maud Kyoguhairwe who polled 3,914 votes.

Meanwhile, Kavuma advised party EC officials in Makindye who have been complaining of meagre pay from the party to approach the party’s national secretariat or electoral commission to present their case.
