Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | The Democratic Party-DP President General, Norbert Mao has formally introduced Charles James Ssenkubuge alias Siasa to the Kampala district party leadership, saying he will help Uganda’s oldest political party to victory in the 2021 Lord Mayor’s elections.

Ssenkubuge was nominated on Monday on the DP ticket which had initially been handed to Beatrice Kayanja but was blocked on grounds that she isn’t a registered voter.

At the pomp-filled event at the DP offices in Mengo, Mao gave an electrifying speech punctuated with historical narrations of how the city has always been safe in the hands of DP leaders.

He argues that Kampala will never stabilize before returning into the hands of DP, saying he has confidence in the political will and strength of Ssenkubuge to reclaim the glory on behalf of DP.

He distanced him and DP from anyone who wishes to change leadership through violent means, saying they are determined to cause change without violence and threatening the lives of Ugandans.

In his speech, Ssenkubuge praised Mao’s administration for having helped him to secure the required number of signatures in such a short period of time when he decided to substitute Kayanja.
