Amudat, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Amudat LC5 chairperson Francis Kiyonga Adamson has been charged in Matugga Grade I magistrate’s court with stealing a district vehicle valued at sh130m.
Latif Nakibinge, the grade I magistrate who remanded Kiyonga to Kasangati government prison until March 31st when his bail application will be entertained, heard that the latter committed the offence on 24th May of 2017.
It is alleged that Kiyonga sold off the wreckage of the Ranger Double Cabin number UG 0654, a property of the district.
Twidhukirwa Betty the state prosecutor has told court that investigations into the offence are complete and requested the magistrate to fix a date for hearing to commence.
Although Nuwandinda Jonan, counsel for the accused person pleaded with court to grant bail to his client, this fell on deaf ears of the magistrate since Kiyonga’s sureties were not in court.
Nuwandinda told court that it had not been easy transporting the sureties all the way from Amudat district to Matugga and sought for 30 more minutes for them to arrive as they were almost reaching court by the time it sat.
Accordingly, the magistrate remanded Kiyonga to Kasangati prison and advised Nuwandinda to mobilize the sureties in time and appear for the application before court starts. He said that he could not grant bail to a high level person without having sureties who could guarantee his return to court.
