One killed in Mbale-Tororo road accident

Tororo, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | One person has been killed in an accident along the Mbale-Tororo highway. The accident which occurred at 6 am in Bisu town council involved a Tororo Cement truck registration number UBA 127M carrying limestone. The deceased has been identified as Awali Etongo, the driver of the truck.

His turn boy Deo Opio sustained injuries and was rushed to Mbale Regional Referral Hospital in critical condition. The truck was heading to Tororo from Kapchorwa.

Emma Wafukho, an eyewitness in Bisu town council says that the truck failed to turn at the sharp corner. He says the truck lost control, knocked the rail guards and overturned.

According to Wafukho, residents rushed to the scene to rescue the occupants, but the driver was already dead.

Francis Opio, another eyewitness says that the sharp corner has become a black spot. He explains that three separate accidents have happened in the area claiming six lives.

He wants the Uganda National Roads Authority- UNRA to remove the sharp corner.
