PLE: UNEB official arrested after exam container keys go missing

Masaka, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | The police in Kyotera have arrested the UNEB manager for PLE station 53 in Kalisizo. It is said that Irene Namono disappeared with the key to the exam container at Kalisizo police station for several hours and was nowhere to be seen by 8:45 am when learners were expected to be sitting for the Primary Leaving Exams (PLE) papers.

Peter Ntalage, the Kyotera District Inspector of Schools, police and other authorities who mounted a search for her said she could not be found at the guesthouse where she had lodged last night. She appeared after two hours when the education authorities and police had broken the padlock and removed the exam for distribution.

Ntalage immediately ordered police to arrest her for causing the delays​ in the 23 UNEB centres.

According to Ntalage, the exam distribution started late which interfered with the time the candidates were supposed to start the papers the final papers.

M​aria Namubiru, the District UNEB Monitor, declined to comment on the matter saying the police were handling it. Police declined to grant her bond as investigations continue.
