Washington, US | THE INDEPENDENT | The COVID-19 pandemic has created a new normal, seeing greater demand for takeaway meals, and ketchup packets to go with french fries in particular.
The Wall Street Journal has reported a shortage in the US, with Kraft Heinz, which makes most of the ketchup sold at U.S. restaurants, struggling to cope with demand for packets.
Restaurants are reportedly handing out more single-serve ketchup packets ,as ketchup bottles have been taken off the tables to reduce the spread of the COVID-19 virus.
The report indicates that like a lot of other supply-chain problems over the past year, the current ketchup shortage is COVID-19 related and retail ketchup sales were up 15 percent in 2020. Heinz is scrambling to meet the demand for home-use ketchup.
