Kasese woman arrested for stealing a three week baby

Kasese, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Police in Kasese district are holding a 28-year old woman accused of stealing a 3 weeks year old baby.

The suspect is Loice Katusiime, a resident of Kidodo, Kasese municipality and is now being held at Kasese central police station.

The child belongs to Nelia Nyakato and Brian Muyonjo, all residents of railway ward.

The Rwenzori East Regional police spokesperson Nelson Tumushime told Uganda Radio Network on Friday that Katusiime stole the baby from the parents on Wednesday at around 9:00pm and disappeared with her to unknown destination.

The locals and police mounted a man hunt for the suspect until they found her with the child at her home.

Tumushime says they are investigating the matter to establish the intentions of the suspect.

Nyakato says the suspect who has been an occasional visitor to the family on that night approached her without uttering a word and grabbed the baby from her before taking off.

She adds that Katusiime left while saying she would kill the baby.

The mother alerted police and residents who managed to arrest the suspect.

But Katusime told police that she acted unknowingly under the influence of alcohol.
