Arua, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | The Maracha county Member of Parliament Denis Lee Oguzu has joined the race for the deputy speaker of the 11th parliament.
Oguzu announced his bid on Wednesday evening while addressing members of the West Nile press in Arua city.
He said there is an urgent need to reform the office of the deputy speaker thus he has offered himself to bring sanity to an office. “We might not have been in that parliament long enough, but we have been around too long to know what has become of that office,” said Oguzu.
Oguzu said the office of the deputy speaker has become an avenue for clearing all kinds of dubious bills and he wants to offer leadership that will benefit all Ugandans.
He warned members of the eleventh parliament to desist from electing the speaker and deputy speaker based on party affiliation but rather look out for people who will have the country at heart.
Oguzu Lee who won his second term in parliament under the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) ticket, joins the list of other legislators including Kampala central MP Muhammad Nsereko and Bukedea Woman MP Anita Among among others seeking to replace Jacob Oulanyah who is challenging to become the speaker.
