Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Members of Parliament have said they want President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni to assure Ugandans on the security in the country following the attack on General Katumba Wamala.

On Tuesday, suspected assailants attacked former Works Minister Gen. Katumba Wamala at Kisota road in Kisaasi, killing his daughter Brenda Nantongo and driver Haruna Kayondo.

The shooting was similar to those that saw the death of former police spokesperson Andrew Felix Kaweesi, police officer Muhammad Kirumira, former Arua Municipality MP Ibrahim Abiriga among others, and in all these cases no major leads to the suspects and report have been conclusive.

The MPs also want President Museveni to give a way forward on living with the COVID-19 pandemic that is causing more challenges in the country. This is after a sudden rise in COVID-19 cases which is now over 500 cases daily.

Buwekula South MP William Museveni Ndooli says that security needs to be key in the President’s address. He says that this is not the first time shootings are happening and high profile persons targeted. He says the President should also expound on the report on the past murders.

Ndooli also says the President should assure the country on how to move on with COVID-19 and how children will be educated amidst the pandemic.

Nebbi Woman MP Agnes Acibu says there is fear among Ugandans following the attack on Katumba. She says the President needs to bring an end to this. Acibu also says that MPs expect the president to give them a direction on the economy, the grassroots people among others.

Bunya County South MP Iddi Isabirye equally says following the attack on Gen. Katumba, the President needs to give assurance that no further killings will happen. He says the killing is not the first time and people need to be assured.

Mutebi Wanzala, the Nakasongola County MP says that the issue of land evictions and compensations in the country should be addressed by the President. He also says that on the issue of security, the country is still experiencing tough times with the attempt on Katumba.

He also says the COVID-19 situation seems to be getting out of hand, and this should be addressed. He also says the President should address the high poverty cases that have affected several parts of the country and people are desperate.

Waako Peggy who represents older persons in Parliament says security, the economy and older person matters should come first.
