Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | The Speaker of Parliament Jacob Oulanyah is operating from the East Committee Room of Parliament as he awaits finalization of the organization of the Speakers office on the sixth floor of Parliament.
The office of the Speaker has been occupied for the past 10-years by the former Speaker Rebecca Kadaga. However, she lost the seat to her former deputy and Omoro County MP Jacob Oulanyah in a vote held at the beginning of the eleventh parliament last month.
According to reports, the office of the Speaker is undergoing reorganization and renovation with painting, installation of ICT infrastructure in addition to putting in place furniture. Uganda Radio Network has now established that Oulanyah has for the past week been occupying a temporary office in the East Committee room.
Committee rooms are not yet being used as committees and their leadership have not yet been set up. According to sources from Parliament, the reorganization is expected to take over two weeks. Chris Obore, Parliament’s Director of Communications and Public Affairs, the Speaker temporarily sits at the East Committee room.

Although he was still Deputy Speaker, Oulanyah was occupying the Deputy Speakers office on the fifth floor, for over a year Oulanyah has been operating from his rented offices in Naguru due to the bickering relationship with then-Speaker Rebecca Kadaga.
Meanwhile, according to Obore, all MPs will finally get office space from July 15.
