Kigali, Rwanda | THE INDEPENDENT | Commander of the UPDF land forces Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba has rescued the cash-strapped Uganda national basketball team The Silverbacks that nearly got stranded in Kigali.
The basketball federation announced today that Gen Muhoozi had personally given them Sh188million they needed to settle hotel bills. “We thank you for loving and supporting Basketball. They future of the game is certainly bright,” FUBA said.
The development followed conflicting reports in the morning that the team had been stopped from leaving by their hotel, that denied it. Earlier reports also indicated that the Rwanda basketball federation Fewaba had decided to clear the bill on behalf of the Ugandans.
Uganda reached the quarter-finals of the AfroBasket 2021 tournament in Rwanda, where they were beaten yesterday by Cape Verde. To reach this stage, Uganda had upset Nigeria.
