Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | The Directorate of Crime Intelligence has arrested more suspects for dropping threatening leaflets in Katabi-Entebbe municipality, Wakiso district. Fred Enanga identified one of the suspects as Alexis Ruganda alias king-star, a 26-year-old who was arrested in Abayita ababiri over the weekend.
Enanga says that Ruganda was found with threatening letters and lists of purported victims he was planning to attack.
Ruganda, a resident Mabirizi village in Masaka district was arrested following an intelligence-led operation in Abaita Ababiri and Nkumba.
According to Enanga, the suspect led police officers to Kitubulu village where they recovered five hammers each weighing 10-kilograms hidden in a banana plantation.
Earlier this month, police arrested three people including William Lubega, a mechanic, Asadu Kirigwajo, a former bodyguard of the Katabi town council LC III chairperson, and Ronald Barugu for allegedly participating in dropping threatening letters to a section of community members in Katabi. Police suspect Ruganda to be part of that group.
The suspects were threatening to harm Ronald Kalema together with John Marry and Andrew Ssebowa among others. Police said the same suspects were asking their targeted victims to either pay Shillings 2 million or face their wrath.
In the same operation in Katabi, an eleven year old girl was arrested and later cautioned before being released.
Recently, security agencies set up a team to track the source of the threatening leaflets dropped in various parts of the country.
The joint team comprises forensic, ICT and investigation experts drawn from the Directorate of Forensic Science, Crime Intelligence, Criminal Investigations Directorate, Internal Security Organizations and Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence.
