Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | The family of Ismael Basibe, who was among those killed in last week’s bomb explosions in Kampala is demanding support from the government.

The deceased’s elder brother Hussein Kalulu, says that he got to know of Basibe’s demise on Tuesday when the police spokesperson Fred Enaga said that they were looking for the relatives.

Kalulu notes that Basibe who was born in 1987 had shifted to Buvuma district where he was staying with his wife and six children. According to Kalulu, he last met the deceased at the beginning of November in Mayuge.

Basibe then told him that he was going to Kampala to secure a loan and buy a motorcycle.

Kalulu who was a boda boda rider and a resident at Kasala village in Nairambi sub county contested for the LC3 chairperson seat for Nairambi sub county as an independent candidate but lost to Yunusu Maganda of the NRM party.

Hamza Kakungulu, one of his close friends says that when Basibe reached Kampala, his old motorcycle was impounded by police on the eve of the bomb blast for riding past curfew hours.

According to Kakungulu, on the day of the explosions, the deceased was at Central Police Station where he had gone to claim his motorcycle.

He wants the government to support the six children he has left behind.

Last week while delivering a statement on the bomb blasts to Members of Parliament, Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja said that government will organize compassionate assistance to the families of the bereaved and survivors.

The bombs claimed the lives of seven people and left 37 others injured. According to the police, three of the dead were suicide bombers, while the others were Police Constable Kungu Amos, and civilians Sande Christopher, and George Katana.
