Netball She Cranes in Namibia for Pent Series Opener

In match-day one game, Uganda will play Zambia, Namibia will battle Kenya while Malawi will take on Zimbabwe.  

Windhoek, Namibia | THE INDEPENDENT | The Uganda National Netball team, the She Cranes is aiming for victory over Zambia in their opener in the Pent series starting today in Windhoek, Namibia.

Uganda’s team of fifteen players was flagged off on Thursday. The players had spent almost a month in a residential camp in preparations for the games.

On Sunday, the She Cranes team under the stewardship of head coach Fred Mugerwa had their last training session at Patrick Iyambo netball courts in Namibia for the final touch ahead of their opener.

Mugerwa, says that his team is in good moods ahead of their first game with no injuries adding that they had some challenges with the weather in Namibia but they ae trying to acclimatize with it.

Stella Oyella, the She Cranes Captain confidently said that she believes they have had enough preparations to face any challenges that come against them.

According to the opening fixtures, Uganda will play Zambia, Namibia will battle Kenya while Malawi will take on Zimbabwe. All matchday one games will be played tomorrow on 1st November 2021.

The tournament attracted six countries which include hosts Namibia, Uganda, Malawi, Zimbabwe, Zambia and Kenya. It will double up as the next year’s Commonwealth Games qualifiers. It will be played in a round-robin format according to the organizers.

The five-day event that will end on 5th November 2021 will then pave way for the Africa Netball Championship scheduled for November 10-16.

The tournament’s inaugural kick-off was in 2017 where Zimbabwe won the first edition, while Namibia won in 2018. For the past two years, has not been taking place due to the outspread of Covid-19.
