Enterprise Development and Innovation Manager at Save the Children

Key Areas of Accountability (Roles & Responsibilities):
• Reviewing and mapping the entrepreneurship eco-ecosystem, develop an appropriate incubation model to support entrepreneurs that have moved beyond the early stages of business establishment.
• Identify and work with incubation and acceleration business providers to develop and implement an incubation/acceleration program aimed at equipping the cohort businesses in: product-market fit, market planning and strategy, Go-To-Market Strategies, financial reporting, legal and compliance needs, value proposition, intellectual property, marketing tactics, revenue models, team/leadership development and growth financing options. Develop and execute strategy for outreach, identifying, attracting and onboarding deserving and qualified innovative entrepreneurs, and start-ups.
Provide high-quality coaching and advisory support to entrepreneurs.
• Qualify and evaluate potential participants for creativity, innovation, acceleration and investment stage.
• Provide support to entrepreneurs across ideation, acceleration, investment and scale-up stages.
• Ensure tight management of milestones and progress of entrepreneurs and start-up businesses.
• Guide & support start-ups for fundraising activity.
• Support the Director of Engagement and Partnerships in execute the partnership engagement strategy for the entire community including donors, start-ups, investors, corporates, mentors, advisors, and domain experts.
• Provide continued strategic guidance to entrepreneurs in areas such as business modeling, sales, and marketing, financing, fundraising, overall strategy, operations etc.
• Be the switchboard for entrepreneurs to access relevant resources and connections
• Work closely with the Uthabiti Grants Manager and Awards Coordinator to implement a scalable Catalytic and Innovation Grant portfolio that provides business start-up and expansion grants to targeted businesses.
• Work with various partners and stakeholders including the Comprehensive Refugee Response Framework (CRRF) and Government of Uganda partners and settlement level livelihood actors to influence overall.
• Mobilize private sector actors to identify ways in which private sector business activities could generate more and better jobs for refugees and host community members, both in their operations and along their supply chains
• Provide sound contributions to knowledge networks and communities of practice relevant to innovative partnerships and private sector development.
• Identify fora and opportunities for Uthabiti to show case its work related to innovative partnerships, solutions and the private sector engagement, including identifying best practices that can be shared nationally and internationally.
• Work closely with the Director of Engagement and Partnerships (DEP), develop partnerships with the private sector in alignment with the objective of mobilizing private sector to create meaningful livelihood opportunities for refugees and host community members (particularly young women and men) and to correct labor market failures.
• Maintain contacts and relationships with private sector partners / foundations and related stakeholders and develop working relationships with companies interested in Uthabiti’s work.
• Perform, as requested, risk assessment of possible new private sector partners.
• Generate interest among partners, donors, ecosystem players and other support agencies in a collaborative manner, building and leveraging overall livelihood sector response activities and SCI programming.
• Contribute to the programming and design of private sector activities and support the integration of technical advice into the Uthabiti Activity.
• Work with program partners to structure technical engagements, including tech ecosystem development, creation of business incubators, startup support services, which build and expand Uthabiti’s influence and reach in Uganda.
• Working closely with the MEAL Specialist, ensure that robust monitoring and evaluation, quality data collection and analysis systems are in place, adhered to and used as a decision-making tool, encouraging consistency across programs.
• Conduct frequent field visits to project sites to assess activities and ensure efficient use of resources
• Advise on and assist with project reviews conducted by the M&E Unit.
• Ensure authentic data is provided by field teams for project progress updates

To be successful for this role you will bring/have the following:
• At least a Masters degree in Economics, Management, Business Administration or another relevant field (required).
• At least 3 years’ experience in a relevant managerial position.
• At least 5 years’ experience managing entrepreneurship projects, incubators and accelerators, or SME development required.
• Demonstrated ability to cultivate, build and maintain strong working relationships with start-ups, entrepreneurs, mentors, universities, research institutions, industry experts, associations, chamber of commerce & industries, state & central government, and angel investors.
• Substantial experience of supporting early stage innovators and entrepreneurs, including a deep understanding of what it takes to start a new enterprise.
• Experience in designing training and exceptional facilitation skills, including the ability to communicate complex topics lucidly.
• Significant experience and proven skills in relationship management and in engaging and influencing a variety of stakeholders.
• Good understanding of social impact measurement.
• Proficient skills in event delivery and project management, including the ability to manage time effectively and balance multiple priorities.
• Proven experience in creating and maintaining effective working relationships that foster collaborative learning.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to lead and work effectively in team situations.
• Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills in English required.
• Willing to commit to Save the Children’s aims, values and principles.
