East African Ministries|4africa has been working in South Sudan and Uganda since 2008 to-date. The Ministries is a not-for profit faith-based Organization with a head office in Fort Worth, Dallas, USA.
In 2014, East African Ministries|4africa established the Leadership Academy of South Sudan, a mixed boarding secondary school, temporarily registered as an international school with the Ministry of Education & General Instructions, Juba, South Sudan.
The school seeks to recruit a suitably qualified South Sudanese or Ugandan to fill the following vacant position in the Science Department of a Chemistry/Biology Teacher.

JOB SUMMARY:
The Biology/Chemistry teacher is intentional in his/her delivery to enhance the teaching and learning of science-based subjects in the school. The teacher will prepare and teach lessons, assess learners’ progress, provide guidance and counseling, manage students’ discipline, participate in co-curricular activities, support discipleship and administration, and other departmental activities.
The Chemistry/Biology teacher will be accountable for the following: –
Duties and responsibilities:
Model a high standard of personal Christian character and integrity through lifestyle and professional relationships;
2. Positively influence the culture of the Leadership Academy of South Sudan’s culture to be one of transparency, excellence, and generosity of spirit;
3. Participate in and occasionally lead daily Christian devotions and fellowships as per the fellowship schedule.
4. Teach Biology and Chemistry lessons thoroughly and ensure learners grasp subject concepts and ideas.
5. Make schemes of work for each subject, daily lesson plans, a record of marks, and a record of work covered for the given class.
Thoroughly prepare for and deliver practical lessons to the class allocated following the timetable
7. Review and mark students’ work and activities, maintain the progress of students’ performance and give appropriate feedback.
8. Identify and select a wide range of learning resources and equipment to enhance the subjects performance.
9. Research new topics, maintain up-to-date subject knowledge, and revise new curriculum materials to equip students with relevant and up-to-date knowledge.
10. Identify and set well-crafted relevant items for topical tests and internal and external examinations.
11. Fill in students’ marks in the mark sheet and report cards and make appropriate comments regarding students’ performance and behaviors.
12. Manage students’ behavior in the classroom and on school premises and apply appropriate and effective measures in cases of behavior.
Supervise and support the work of teaching assistants, trainee teachers, and newly qualified teachers
14. Participate in and organize extra-curricular activities like; sports, practicals, and other school social activities and trips outside the school.
15. Contribute towards departmental meetings and develop teaching strategies to improve school ratings.
16. Attend school programs and activities, e.g., visitation day, teacher’s workshops, student seminars, general assembly, prefects’ vetting, and open forums.
17. Keep minutes of meetings and report to the departmental head; oversee the implementation of decisions made at departmental staff meetings.
Hold teaching demonstrations; encourage enjoyment in learning chemistry and biology using various teaching methods.
19. Participate in identifying, selecting, and developing new students in LASS.
20. Participate in the teaching of discipleship lessons at LASS as may be required.
21. Any other duty that may be assigned by the administration from time to time but should keep the cardinal duties the same.
Preferred Skills and Experience:
1. Bachelor of Science in Education, Biology, and Chemistry from a recognized institution of higher learning.
2. At least one (1) year of experience in a similar position.
3. Willingness to work in South Sudan.
4. Must be a practicing Christian.
5. Must have scored distinction in the subjects applied by the applicant in “O” level and “A’ and or “B” in UACE examinations.
6. Willingness to learn and grow under the instruction of teaching faculty and in a professional environment.
7. Must have experience dealing with children and no record of conviction in any Court of Law nor any record concerning abuse or neglect of children.
Key Competencies: subject mastery, computer skills, communication, report writing, Integrity, teamwork, flexibility, ability to work long hours, child respect and protection, and able to adequately represent LASS on different forums while upholding the integrity of the school.
