Masaka, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Machete-wielding thugs have killed another person bringing to 28, the number killed in unexplained murders in the greater Masaka region. The latest victim is 85-year-old Vincent Lusindi, a resident of Mpumudde village, Lyakibirizi parish in Kyazanga sub county, Lwengo district.

Residents found his lifeless body lying outside his house this morning with machete wounds. Moses Magondo, a resident of the village says that residents who were going to the garden in the morning discovered the lifeless body.

He says that the assailants accessed the deceased’s house using the back door, which residents found broken. “He stays with people in the house who are however sometimes away, which could have given the assailants an opportunity to attack,” he said.

The incident comes amidst heightened security deployment in the area in response to the persistent killings. Paul Nkore, the Greater Masaka Regional Police Commander indicates that their forensic teams are examining the body to obtain clues that can lead to the killers.

He says their joint security task force has called in more personnel to reinforce their deployments such that they can secure the area from the murderers.
