Lamwo, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Residents of Tumanun A village in Agoro sub county in Lamwo district killed a suspected rustler from South Sudan over the weekend following a botched livestock theft.

The area LC I chairperson Ismael Ogak, says that the deceased suspect together with two others attempted to steal goats from the kraal of one of the residents on Saturday night prompting her to raise alarm.

He says that residents responded to the alarm and pursued the livestock thieves and managed to apprehend the deceased suspect and lynched him.

Ogak however says that they only learnt about the incident on Sunday morning when they accessed the scene and found the deceased’s headless body. He says that they alerted the authorities and security who conducted investigations and identified the dead suspect as a South Sudanese national.

They laid the body in the wilderness. Lamwo Resident District Commissioner James Nabinson Kidega says that inquiries indicate that the livestock thieves reportedly made an incursion into Agoro from Logire Ngrumo in Ikotos County of the Eastern Equatorial State of South Sudan.

Kidega decried the ruthless killing of the suspected rustler and called on locals to desist from taking the law into their hands.

The incident comes barely weeks after the district experienced a similar attack by suspected armed rustlers from neighbouring South Sudan in Madi Opei sub county where they were repulsed by security.
