Moscow, Russia | THE INDEPENDENT | Russia President Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin has just ordered troops into Ukraine for peacekeeping mission in Donetsk and Luhansk.
In text of a presidential order he signed February 22, he is recognizing Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics. He has therefore ordered Russian military to ‘maintain peace’ in the Ukraine rebel regions.
Putin has instructed the Russian defence ministry to assume “the function of peacekeeping” and also ordered his foreign ministry to “establish diplomatic relations” with the “republics.”
U.S Secretary of State Antony Kremlin responded immediately. He said “recognition of the so-called “Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics” as “independent” requires a swift and firm response, and we will take appropriate steps in coordination with partners”
