The Packing Plant Supervisor controls and coordinates safe and environment friendly packing, loading and dispatch process of cement from the silos and palletizing hall to the weighbridge and onto the customer trucks by liaising with Customer Service, Logistics and Maintenance teams in order to achieve set dispatch targets, customer satisfaction and acceptable plant reliability levels. Receive, store, issue and account for all packing materials at the consumption stores in line with standard operating procedures.
The scope includes:
• Health, Safety and Environmental Compliance.
• Strict adherence to procedures and internal controls.
• Maintain proper housekeeping standards.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
• Ensure Health and Safety compliance of all contactor staff, transporters and customer’s drivers at the packing plant through compliance to safety rules, standards and procedures.
• Take immediate charge of any emergency situation involving personnel or equipment and liaise with the Health, Safety and Environment Coordinator who is the Plant’s incident commander.
• Maintain proper housekeeping standards to ensure that the packing plant and parking yard are kept clean at all the times.
• Supervise the packing and loading operations, bag and bulk including the management, security and control of paper bags, optimize equipment performance, manpower productivity and loading plans adherence.
• Authorize loading of bulk and bagged cement only after checking trucks have taken the first weight and have valid loading authority in the form of sales order or delivery note and ensure each truck is loaded with the correct number of bags and brand cement in compliance with the loading plans.
• Ensure all cement bags packed, loaded and dispatched to customers are of the correct weight and take corrective actions with urgency on spouts releasing under/weight when necessary.
• Load and weigh the bulkers with the correct tonnage as per customer’s order strictly adhering to the bulk loading procedure.
• Receive and load railway with correct cement brand as customer’s order which must be valid and availed at the dispatch office. Ensure safe wagon shunting and sealing after loading.
• Prepare all the required shift reports which must include but is not limited to safety reports, downtime analysis reports, daily dispatch report, running shift handover reports and shift operations report.
• Carry out first level inspection throughout the packing lines during shift to cover all the routes as per inspection sheets and m-inspect app.
• Ensure correct loading of all brands of cement following the sampling schedule from the quality department. Ensure samples for special brands are picked and results communicated before dispatch.
Required Qualifications skills and attributes
Educational Requirements
• A Diploma/Higher National Diploma/ Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or any other technical training.
• Minimum 4 years experience in a busy process or heavy industry environment.
• Good Knowledge of cement manufacturing process, product quality and computer aided systems for mill/packing operation.
• Experience of ERP systems like SAP is an added advantage.
• Reporting and Computer skills using Excel, Ms Word and Ms Powerpoint.
